Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Dishmi Capital

Welcome to my corner of the internet where I share practical insights on tax alpha, portfolio construction, derivatives, and other quantitative finance topics. Over the past two decades, I’ve worked across Wall Street banks, global asset managers, and fintech startups — a journey that’s given me a unique perspective on asset and wealth management.

My mission is simple: bring education and transparency to investing. Explore around, and hit ‘Work With Me’ if you have questions or want to chat.

ENTREPRENEUR. INVESTOR. ADVISOR.

Shang Chou is Co-founder and Managing Partner at Dishmi Capital, an investment firm focused on tax alpha and alternative investments. A builder and educator at heart, Shang brings over two decades of experience developing investment and fintech solutions for the asset and wealth management industry.  He has also had the privilege of advising institutional and ultra-high-net-worth clients at bulge-bracket Wall Street banks and global asset managers.

Previously, Shang served as Chief Revenue Officer at Tema ETFs, where he helped build and deliver institutional-grade active equity solutions to financial advisors, family offices, and individual investors.  Before that, he was a Managing Director and one of the first employees at Simplify Asset Management.  At Simplify, Shang helped develop, launch, and market over twenty derivatives-based, fixed income, and alternative ETFs while contributing to the firm’s growth to multiple billions in assets under management.  He has also held investment management and investment banking roles at firms including Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, PIMCO, and Credit Suisse.

Shang earned his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.  He currently serves as an Advisory Board Member at the UNLV Lee Business School, where he was previously an Adjunct Professor of Finance.

A former collegiate water polo player, Shang enjoys swimming laps and playing in his annual alumni water polo game. He and his wife Lillian stay busy raising their two young, energetic boys, playing tennis, lifting weights, golfing, and coaching their sports teams.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LIFE

EDUCATION

Quantitative rigor with a passion for teaching.

I’m an MIT grad and UCLA Anderson MBA who focuses on making quantitative and analytical concepts easier to understand. Engineering problem-solving at MIT taught me how to break hard problems into solvable parts; UCLA Anderson taught me how to read business models and lead teams. Both have sharpened my ability to turn complex markets into clear, actionable frameworks. Today I am incredibly fortunate to focus my professional efforts at the intersection of quantitative finance, wealth management, and financial technology.

CAREER PROGRESSION

Institutional Rigor Meets the Agility of a Fintech Innovator.

My career has taken me from Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and PIMCO to helping scale innovative firms like Simplify Asset Management. This blend of professional experiences gives me the rigorous discipline of institutional finance and the agility that fintech innovation demands – a background that lets me bridge traditional asset management and the evolving wealth management landscape.

A STRONG FRAME, A SOUND MIND

Staying in the game — from the field to the sidelines.

Sports are a huge part of my life as I grew up playing water polo, basketball, golf, and swimming competitively. A former collegiate water polo player, I’ve also competed in USAPL powerlifting meets and local CrossFit competitions. Recently, I’ve picked up tennis as well and am chasing a 3.5 NTRP rating. Sports brings our family together – my kids play water polo, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, soccer, golf, as well as swim – I spend my spare time coaching my son’s AYSO soccer team or being way too locked in at their sports practices. Watching my kids grow faster, stronger, and more confident is one of life’s great joys (even if it’s a daily reminder that I’ve officially entered “chopped unc” territory).

FAMILY LIFE

The center of everything I do.

Family is at the center of everything I do. My wife and I make it a priority to carve out time together in our busy lives – whether it’s making time to do drop-off or pick-up together, short staycations in San Diego, or simple weekends at home in Los Angeles. Raising our kids and staying close with extended family keeps me grounded – and it’s a daily reminder of why the work at Dishmi Capital matters: helping families build, protect, and pass on what they’ve worked so hard to create.

PHILANTHROPIC ENDEAVORS

Paying it forward to the next generation.

Giving back has always been important to me. I serve as an Educational Counselor for MIT Admissions, helping prospective students navigate the college process, and sit on the Advisory Board at UNLV’s Lee Business School. I have also taught “Derivatives and Risk Management” (FINQ 764) as an adjunct professor in the Masters of Science in Quantitative Finance program at UNLV. These roles allow me to support the next generation of talent and stay connected to the institutions which hold deep meaning for me.
